School Celebrations

Vinehall pupils will be involved in celebrations for the school's seventieth anniversary throughout the year. We are very keen that the children benefit from these events and that they will serve to enrich the current curriculum. We hope the celebrations will make the children feel part of the wider Vinehall community and see their place in its ongoing history. . There is a dressing-up day early in May when the entire school will dress in the style of 1938.

Prep School

We intend to take a whole school photograph to celebrate our anniversary and the school magazine will take the anniversary as its theme (to be published in the autumn, 2008), providing information about the school then and now.

We will be inviting Vines to speak to the pupils later this year and the history department is planning a special history week to tie-in with the anniversary. Our Vinehall Foundation is launched this year and we concentrate our efforts on celebrating all that has been achieved at Vinehall so far at the same time as looking forward to the next seventy years. The Foundation provides a platform from which we can develop the school's facilities as well as a bursary fund to increase fees assistance for talented youngsters at Vinehall.

The anniversary year will mean a special Vines' Day celebrating fifty years of the Vines' Society at the same time as seventy years of the school and we hope that Vines' weekend will be a focus for current and past members of the school community to come together and celebrate the school.

Pre-Prep

As a Pre-Prep we are all working towards a display of children's work, which will be on view later in the term. Visitors at our Summer Ball will have the opportunity to see what the children have discovered.

We begin our studies by going back in history and we will be encouraging all the children to participate in our dressing up day, the theme of which is 1938. We expect to welcome street urchins as well as pupils from the upper echelons that day! We have a number of books in our newly enlarged Pre-Prep library, which will support our research. Mrs Chaplin, a former teacher and Headmaster's wife, has been persuaded to talk about the early days of the school to the children. Mrs Chaplin grew up at Vinehall and she has an extensive knowledge of Vinehall's history so she is in a good position to answer any questions that the children have.

Our aim this year is to give our annual Arts Festival an historical flavour so that it links with the anniversary celebrations. We have planned puppet workshops in which all the children will make puppets and there will be a professional performance for the children to watch. We shall look at the history of puppets and compare with the Punch and Judy performances of the early twentieth century.

In addition we hope to be able to host a number of Open Assemblies for parents, as we have in the past, and to invite in groups from the music department.
