House system

Every child at Vinehall is entered into one of the four houses, Ashton, Paxton, Rushton or Saxton. Vinehall children are fiercely loyal to their houses, which provide an opportunity for competitions, sports and social opportunities and the chance to mix across the age ranges. Healthy competition is very much valued.

All Vinehall children are allocated one of the four houses for their time here. If they have brothers, sisters or cousins at school, then they join the same house, so a family feel is maintained. Indeed, we always do the same if their parents or other relatives were at Vinehall. Ashton (blue) was named after Lord Ashton, who owned Vinehall, Paxton (green) is named after the Victorian architect who is believed to have designed the grounds, Rushton (red) was the name of the park in the 19^th century and Saxton (yellow) was made up when many years ago another house was needed!

The houses meet once a week. There is a termly competition and the winning house all go on an enjoyable outing in the last week of term. The houses give an opportunity for internal competitions in sport, and also other events, such as the music competition, art competition and the annual General Knowledge competition which give the children a focus for their efforts and talents.

There are social advantages in running our house system. It provides a valuable opportunity for all ages to mix together. At lunch the tables are arranged in houses and different ages sit together and chat. We are very proud that our children are able to mix and have friends in all the other year groups.
