Curriculum
Classroom

Vinehall is a partly-selective school whose aim is to give our pupils a broad, all-round education. Our principal aim is to encourage our pupils to make the most of every opportunity and to enable them to achieve the highest standards of academic, cultural and athletic achievement of which they are capable. This is done by fostering a sense of self-discipline and organisation in the pupils.

The curriculum is based on the structure laid down by the Early Years and then the National Curriculum up to Year 6, whilst allowing us the freedom to develop certain parts of the curriculum further, where appropriate. In Years 7 and 8 the curriculum is determined by the Syllabi for Common Entrance and Scholarships through which we prepare the pupils for entrance to schools of their parents’ choice at 13+.

A stimulating and well-structured programme is used to deliver the curriculum including a sensible mix of formal and informal work. At times the pupils are expected to listen, take notes and write or learn quietly, whilst at other times they will be working in groups, discussing or sharing their ideas in an investigative way. They are encouraged to show initiative and enterprise, to co-operate together and to research effectively for themselves.
