The creative and performing arts are highly valued as an important part of the school’s ethos, with many children participating in the extra curricular activities provided in this area.
ART is enjoyed by all the children. The emphasis is placed on using a wide range of media as well as developing skills and techniques. The appreciation of Art and its history underpins the practical work with visits to galleries and exhibitions. The appreciation of their work is celebrated with displays of their work throughout the school and in the locality. Art scholarships are gained by the children on a regular basis.
DRAMA features strongly in the life of the school with all children having drama lessons up to Year 6 and in these they learn to move freely, explore their feelings and to express themselves confidently. There are several full productions staged each year so that most children have the opportunity to perform in costume, on stage, before an audience. All children regularly prepare English Speaking Board presentations to give them valuable experience in oral communication.
MUSIC plays a very important part in the life of the school. The music department has a team of 17 visiting instrumental teachers and most children have individual lessons on one or more instruments. All children have the opportunity to participate in orchestras, ensembles and choirs.
All three departments work closely together and the children’s achievements are celebrated regularly, most publicly in the end of year musical. Vinehall has witnessed magnificent performances of Oliver!, Oklahoma! and Grease over the past three years and these were splendid finales to the academic years, leaving the children with wonderful memories.
