Curriculum
Years 1 & 2 - Curriculum

In Years 1 and 2 we build on the enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning fostered in the Early Years. We follow the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 but are not restricted by it. Our curriculum takes the best elements of traditional teaching, placing an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy, strongly supported by a wide range of subjects and activities designed to widen horizons and develop the children’s imagination. Each class benefits from specialist teachers for French, music, gymnastics, ball skills, swimming and athletics to ensure that high standards are achieved in all curriculum areas.

The curriculum is explained to parents at the beginning of each term and we encourage a working partnership with our parents, recognising that learning goes beyond the classroom. Daily contact with parents is achieved using a home/school link book or through contact with the staff at the end of the day. More formal opportunities to discuss a child’s progress and attainment are available through Parents’ Evenings and written reports.

By the end of the Pre-Prep years your child will have received a thorough academic grounding and will be ready to build on this foundation in the Prep School.
